The Renowned Musician Encourages Public Help to Get Together for Palestine Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Chance for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It occupies a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup
The song was recorded following a major charity concert held in September. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The diverse array of performers featured on Lullaby encompasses a selection of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a group of music creators. The track features a combination of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the project have clarified that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These donations will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Of course, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was noted for its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of property reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a couple of million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from mid-December.
