The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
