The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
