President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured Guard Personnel to the White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Devastating Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The president explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told journalists. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Community members assembled over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the press. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to help others.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the government to pause asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she also intended to speak to the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with excellence, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he addressed the audience at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
