Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Concerns.
'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.
Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the playing area during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.
Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left leg after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.
The England team indicated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and was to take time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".
The concluding match of the series at the SCG starts this coming Sunday.
The English side has already lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury during this series.
Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.
His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.
He was omitted of the third Test, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.
Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman as one of just three teammates to reach double figures.
Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he returned the next day and removed Scott Boland Scott Boland caught behind.
However, at the end of that over, he sent down a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.
Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match following his omission the previous Test.
