Eulogies Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Autopsy Reports Are Sealed.
More than two weeks following the shocking loss of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the couple.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt ready to post publicly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has gone by that I can at last articulate my loss into words," shared Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "Once we started passing more hours together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, commenting that he doesn't recollect "a single day without joy".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob valued immensely. This is one of the many reasons he was the perfect person to guide it," Elwes expressed.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He ended with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese noted.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles court official ruled to block the disclosure of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate issued a restriction on the files to restrict the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" associated with the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a record citing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the tragedy, public personalities shared divergent comments.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, making provocative claims that were widely condemned by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his perspective to the detractors recently. Conversing on his show, Rogan labeled the statements as "shocking" and suggested they showed a troubling deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an adviser could have intervened when the impulse to speak on the tragedy was made.
