Blast Takes 3 Carabinieri While Executing Eviction Procedure in the Verona Area
Three members of law enforcement were killed and no fewer than 15 people sustained injuries in an apparently deliberate blast caused by gas at a rural property in the northern part of Italy.

The blast was triggered as officers and emergency crews approached the residence in the vicinity of Verona to execute an court-ordered eviction for two brothers and a sister aged in their 50s and 60s.
Each of the three officers killed served in the Carabinieri military police.

The explosion could be heard some 5km (3 miles) away and images from the location revealed the building reduced to a mass of wreckage.
“We are in a period of mourning,” stated Interior Minister Minister Piantedosi, who noted that previous tries had been made to displace the three siblings in the past.
Financial Context
The leader of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, said the residence was subject to an eviction order due to unpaid amounts incurred by the three owners.
Mediators had been assigned to engage the family members who had locked themselves into the house. When the police arrived soon after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), officials think one of the siblings set off the explosion.

Petrol bombs were also found at the residence, the interior minister confirmed.
Casualties and Damage
Injured individuals by the incident included eleven more officers of the police force as well as three officers of Italy's state police and a firefighter.
Based on information from the prosecuting attorney, the property was in a poor condition and had was without power.
The official thought the detonation had happened on a floor above the access point and told reporters it was a “deliberate and pre-planned murder”. Just prior to the incident, he said officers had “noticed a hissing sound, likely the gas canisters being activated”.
