A Heap of Anime Updates Landed Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season present a wealth of activities far superior than scanning the headlines: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on delicious food, and using meditation skills to refrain from snapping at family members. I hope you were able to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy news items came out during the festive period, and should you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the biggest announcement, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they are probably trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series showed it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for a while, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season
Shortly after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not yet been announced.
